The man at the corner drug store…..Officer Lawford….Mr. Jacobs….the man who beat her…..the man with a red cross shirt….Hudson Miles….all those clients…..
She thought about them all. Men, each one of them. Men, in flesh and soul. As soon as one of their faces faded from her mind, another one materialized. Floating faces without bodies: it was as if all men were one collective Cheshire Cat, and she, like Alice, had fallen down a hole into Wonderland. For a split second she relaxed, thinking that the baby was no more real than the Mad Hatter or the Queen of Hearts. Then the reality of it all—the baby, the sex, her life—launched her from Wonderland back into her moment, back into the bus: the plain, dirty, stinky, wet bus. She sat there feeling more alone than ever, despite that there were people all around her.
That’s when she knew she had to find Lady Pussycat now. That’s when she knew she couldn’t do it all alone. She needed Lady Pussycat’s help. Hudson may have been the father—she really didn’t know—and she may have loved Hudson, but even if she found him, he wouldn’t be capable of doing what Lady Pussycat could do. Lady Pussycat was a Woman. And now, more than ever, she needed a Woman.
NICE! I'm glad you drew it back to Lady Pussycat. It seems she has the answers to all of life's (well, Anna's life's) problems. I'm excited to see how it develops... when I write the next segment.
ReplyDeleteYeeeeeeah you better capitalize that "Woman." haha! That's great. . . I LOVE this Allen, such a great transition back into reality and a realization that comes along with it. I'm really glad you're getting back to Pusskat too because I wast starting to forget about her. . . Whoever the next few writers are, I think we need to slow down the search for Pussykat and linger some--I think its hard not to get ahead of ourselves! Great job.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Michael that I'm glad we brought it back to Lady Pussycat. Now I want to know more about this quest Anna is on to find her...
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you brought us back to Anna's quest to meet Lady Pussycat. The way I see it, she is on the search for LP in part because her mind is filled with the disasters that the men in her life create. My question is, what is about LP specifically that she finds intriguing, beyond her femininity? Good job progressing the story, Allen!
ReplyDeleteThis is great, glad you came back to LP. I think we should really focus on WHY she wants to find LP, how did she even become interested in her in the first place?
ReplyDeleteThis is great... I'm with all of y'all. I think Chloe is on to something. I think we need to know why LP might hold the answers. It could be good if we learn this through some dialogue with someone else. I think we're at a point that Anna really has to DO something. We've dipped in and out of her head, but stayed more in her head. Time for some sort of action? Great job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone. LP is definitely an important character but do we really want the story to revolve around her? I think LP is a great character to 'reveal' Anna--at least, that's how I think of it. I think LP is the 'redeemed', for lack of a better word, version of Anna. LP could somehow show Anna, through her memory and example, what it means to be a Woman who can fully embrace her sexuality, etc. without feeling exploited, abused, and hopeless--somehow turning Anna from a man-hating, lonely, 'sad' (to use Jill's emotion) character into someone who is liberated and truly free of labels...yadda yadda yadda. Just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteBut again, I think now the story should focus on what Anna is really doing in NYC at the nursing homes. Is this a day job? I don't think so. I think there's got to be a more pressing, important role of her time at the nursing homes in mind, related to LP. So, Michael, I'd like to see how the nursing home(s) relate to LP and flesh out a rough outline of LP.
Great job Allen!
Great post Allen! I was really glad to see the pace slow down and give Anna a chance to reflect on everything that's been happening. You've done a really great job tying everything together and re-routing us back to the search for LP. Now that we're back to the present, I hope the next few posts concentrate on the mystery of LP, the significance of Woman and what the heck her deal is with the nursing homes. This post also did a really great job on intensifying the tension between the genders - very nice!
ReplyDeleteI love your transition back to reality here. You also establish the urgency Anna feels to find LP, which I hope can be further explored in later postings.
