The bus jolted forward as it came to an abrupt stop, sending Anna into the bar of the headrest of the seat in front of her. As if the countless suitors and the pregnancy without a faint clue of a father weren't bad enough, the bitch named Fate must be laughing at this point: "Might as well crack Anna's skull while I'm at it."
Rubbing her head to ease the pain, she stood up from her seat just as the bus started pulling out of bus stop, nearly sending Anna to the floor.
"Wait! This is my stop! Hold the bus! WAIT!"
The bus stopped abruptly again, but Anna had caught her balance on the same bar that had thwacked her a moment before. She hastened towards the front of the bus, ignoring the driver's insult as she made her way quickly down the steps and out the door. On solid ground again, she stood before what might be the answer, her last stop for the day. The Golden Cherry Inn, a sleezy motel on the outskirts of the city. This had to be it. This had to be where she would find her.
Hey, all. I hope this drives us back to finding Lady Pussycat, &c.
ReplyDeleteLove how you called Fate a bitch. Where is Lady Pussycat? Why is Anna so drawn to her? These questions (and more!) to be answered in tomorrow's installment, written by yours truly... :-)
ReplyDeleteI love how you chose Golden Cherry as the sketchy hotel. It may have been random, but there is a sketchy hotel in Opelika by the same name. It's the only place in the area where you can rent rooms by the hour.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I like what's happened to the story in the last few installments. We're dealing with what we know rather than introducing a bunch of new info, although I am excited to see how Courtney connects Anna to LP (as she promised above).
I'd still like to see something about her opinions on the pregnancy. Someone that sleeps around a lot would know how to take precautions. Did she forget or did they not work?
Eric, Golden Cherry was on purpose. :-) Also, I agree with you that at some point the issue of her becoming pregnant needs to be addressed, but I was planning on using my segment tomorrow to reveal some more info on LP's whereabouts and Anna's connection to her. So hopefully someone else will tackle your question, because it's a definitely a good one.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious. Golden Cherry, indeed.
ReplyDeleteAnd, uh...you guys know that accidents can happen on birth control, right? I mean, according to my catholic school sex-ed class, "abstinence is the only birth control that's 100% effective". just sayin.
Now, this begs the question...why the heck is LP hanging out at the Golden Cherry motel? Do I even wanna know?
You're right, Jill - birth control is only about 98% effective, meaning she could definitely have gotten pregnant while on it. Anyhoo, Michael I really like how you gave a good scene from the story that we can catch our breath on. It offers questions while still allowing us to see Anna at this pivotal moment in her journey. Good job! I can't wait to read yours, Courtney!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Michael, this was such a strong segment and it felt nice to see her moving on in the current moment. I like where you're headed for tomorrow Courtney, looking forward to seeing how that will turn out! As for the birth control/pregnancy issue - I'm wondering if that might be an opportunity to talk about her current morals. Hopefully this isn't too judgmental, but I would assume most hooker/strippers probably would be more inclined to go the abortion route if they 'had an accident' - could there be something special about this pregnancy, does something about the discovery of LP change her moral fiber? do we even know yet if she plans on keeping this baby? Maybe all these decisions are all tied together in her current search, career, former abuse, issues with men, etc... Thanks for the great story so far guys!
ReplyDeleteThis is good. I'm glad we're into her present. I'm extremely disturbed that a hotel exists in which you can rent the room by the hour. I would assume it's a BC situation gone bad. I know quite a few people who were part of that 2% and would hazard to say that Anna's baby will fall in that category. It doesn't always have to be negative. Anna may not have planned it and she may be a hooker, but we don't have to assume that it means she doesn't a sense of a baby meaning something. I'm interested to see what Courtney does tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff. I'm ready to "meet" LP in some way. I'm curious what she's like and what she has to do with this baby.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I agree. I like how you intertwined Fate considering how Michelle categorized her earlier as apparently anti-religious (e.g. she hates missionaries)...
ReplyDeleteI also like how you threw the seedy hotel in the mix as well. Although, I'm hoping that she won't really "find her" because LP's probably very old and as I mentioned before, this could possibly take an unfortunate "Fried Green Tomatoes" turn. I'm hoping their meeting is a little classier. I mean, I know this story is not exactly a Victorian novel and all, but I'd really like to see this turn around and show Anna in a more likable, sympathetic light.
Thanks for bringing it back to lady PussyKat Michael! I love the sarcasm, too--always a fan of sarcasm. . . Whoever the next few are, I hope we can slow down the events that take place at the Cherry motel. (Sick).
ReplyDeleteMichael - this is so you. I also enjoyed the sarcasm. I think it adds humor to the chapter, but also helps us to relate to Anna a bit. Her wild story is pretty out there at some points, so it is nice to have a small moment that allows readers to identify with her.
ReplyDeleteLovely. You put anna into the moment and have her literally "bumping into things" within the scene. Nice job.
